Venice - classic views

There must be thousands of thousands of photographs of Venice in print and online, but on visiting Venice I found that few photographers caught what I saw. Of those with a similar perspective, some took almost identical shots as myself, although not quite, we all have our differences in style. I enjoyed sharing their work, so have here published a part of my own portfolio on Venice to share. Yes, there are thousands more.

To begin, I have on this page posted a selection of classic views, or rather, my view on classic Venetian landmarks. But then, there seems to be a stunning view around every corner in Venice. And we all have our own lasting impressions. And there are so many views and details which I saw but did not even try to capture with the camera. I stopped and admired, took time, and simply appreciated Venice.

Venice - life

Venice is a dense city where space is a premium commodity; the buildings are close together, the streets are narrow and apart from the Grand Canal, the waterways are narrow. There is not much room for pedestrians, so life goes on in proximity. Then on the plus side; there is no road traffic, the people are friendly, courteous and everyone gets along fine. We can walk for miles through the alleyways and never take the same route twice. While doing so, I took a set of photographs to portray just a tiny part of life of the city, its people and its visitors. There is so much more.

Venice - details

Sometimes wide vistas describe a scene best, and sometimes the character and beauty is in the detail. Both have their merits. There are wide views in the previous pages, and some shots of details. On this and the following pages I have concentrated on the finer points hat make Venice.I always watch the changing aspects as I pass through a place, noting any tiny features which catch my eye, and to me give reason why things are as they are. The workmanship of sculptors, stonemasons, carpenters, boat-makers, painters and glass-blowers have all had a hand in creating Venice. Venice wouldn't be Venice without them.
