Keswick Island panoramas

Looking out from Keswick Island across the sound, Egremont Passage, to St Bees Island. All the islands in the Cumberland archipelago, which form the southern part of the Whitsunday group,  are named after places in what is now Cumbria in England. Following the names set by Captain Cook when he and his crew first mapped the islands.

The view from our veranda - very low key development, and bring all your own food. Bush stone-curlews in the garden and beach stone-curlews on the beach.

Basil Bay, our bay, at sunrise. We watched white-bellied sea-eagles and ospreys fish here every day.

The sound between Keswick and St Bees islands - Egremont Passage. Good snorkeling on the fringe reef and two hump-backed whales swam through one day while we were snorkeling.

Rain-forest covers the slopes behind the house. Full of butterflies.

The distant mainland with the town of Mackay seen (barely) from eagle view. Whales were breaching in the sea between.

Sunset from Eagle View, with the mountains of the Queensland mainland on the horizon. The butterflies had gone to roost and the fruit bats were about to emerge from the forest below.
